R1: Public engagement toolkit for scientists

STAGE toolkit supports scientists and science communicators in merging the perspectives of science & communication for adopting best practices for public engagement in science, through:

15 key readings related to public engagement with science (including the multi-inter-trans-disciplinary nature of topics like climate change) as well as the value of enacting gender inclusive practices.

50 practical resources that aim at skills’ development ranging from writing for popular science magazines, to giving public talks and engaging with social media in the context of climate change.

75 best-practices of different forms of public engagement on climate change to promote understanding on the causes, effects, and possible ways of addressing the issue.

The project result 2 refers to the professional development training program for scientists in order to support them in engaging public with science, especially in the context of climate change. In particular, six modules have been developed by the STAGE partners focused on: (i) scientists’ writing and oral skills for science communication; (ii) scientists’ familiarisation with public’s knowledge, beliefs, attitudes towards climate change as well as with the factors causing distrust towards scientists;  (iii) scientists’ reflection on the social, historical, cultural and ethical dimensions of climate change, (iv) the role of public engagement in their professional development and (v) the negotiation of sustainability issues. The professional development training program has been implemented both locally in the context of the partners’ institutions as well as during an international learning teaching training activity that took place in Groningen (January 2023).

A complete suite of interactive, digital infographics are designed: indeed, they provide a contemporary and efficient approach to engaging the public with science through data visualization.

The e-Learning space serves as a one-stop shop providing instant access to the full suite of gamified digital learning resources.
